Wolves prepare for new season with roster moves

Timberwolves eyeing playoffs in 2023-24

Team has high hopes with new acquisitions

The Minnesota Timberwolves are gearing up for the 2023-24 NBA season with a new-look roster. The team has made several key acquisitions this offseason, including point guard D'Angelo Russell and center Rudy Gobert. With these additions, the Timberwolves are hoping to make a run at the playoffs after missing out last season. The team has a lot of young talent, led by All-Star forward Karl-Anthony Towns. If they can stay healthy and play to their potential, the Timberwolves could be a surprise team in the Western Conference.

Key additions

D'Angelo Russell is a four-time All-Star who can score and distribute the ball. He averaged 18.1 points and 3.7 assists per game last season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Russell should help take some of the pressure off of Towns and provide the Timberwolves with another scoring option. Rudy Gobert is a three-time Defensive Player of the Year who is one of the best rim protectors in the league. He averaged 15.1 points, 14.7 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game last season with the Utah Jazz. Gobert should help anchor the Timberwolves' defense and make them one of the toughest teams to score against in the NBA.

Other moves

In addition to Russell and Gobert, the Timberwolves also signed free agent forward Kyle Anderson. Anderson is a versatile player who can play multiple positions. He averaged 8.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game last season with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Timberwolves also traded away Patrick Beverley and Jarred Vanderbilt in separate deals. Beverley is a veteran guard who is known for his defense. Vanderbilt is a young forward who is known for his athleticism.

Outlook

The Timberwolves have a lot of potential on paper. They have a young and talented roster led by Towns, Russell, and Gobert. If they can stay healthy and play to their potential, the Timberwolves could be a playoff team in the Western Conference. However, the Timberwolves will have to overcome some challenges. They have a new coach in Chris Finch, and they will need to learn how to play together. They also play in a tough division, with the Denver Nuggets, Memphis Grizzlies, and New Orleans Pelicans all expected to be playoff contenders. Overall, the Timberwolves have a lot of potential, but they will need to prove themselves on the court. If they can do that, they could be a surprise team in the Western Conference.
