What is PIN?

Types of PIN

Risk Factors for PIN

• Age: PIN is more common in older men.
• Race: African American men have a higher risk of developing PIN than white men.
• Family history: Men with a family history of prostate cancer have a higher risk of developing PIN.
• Prior prostate biopsy: Men who have had a prostate biopsy are at an increased risk of developing PIN.

Diagnosis of PIN

PIN is typically diagnosed through a prostate biopsy. A biopsy is a procedure in which a small sample of tissue is removed from the prostate gland and examined under a microscope.

Treatment of PIN

There is no cure for PIN, but treatment can help to prevent it from progressing to prostate cancer. Treatment options for PIN include:

• Active surveillance: This involves monitoring PIN closely to see if it progresses to cancer.
• Surgery: This involves removing the prostate gland.
• Radiation therapy: This involves using high-energy radiation to kill cancer cells.

Outlook for PIN

The outlook for PIN depends on the grade of the PIN and whether or not it progresses to prostate cancer. LGPIN is less likely to progress to prostate cancer than HGPIN. PIC is considered to be a type of prostate cancer, and it has a similar outlook to other types of prostate cancer.
